There are three (beta) versions for iCab for the Mac...
The reason why there are three versions is that the XCode-IDEs from Apple do no longer include frameworks for MacOSX 10.4 or support PowerPC, so it gets complicated to support older MacOSX releases as well.
Icab 5 9 25 Commentary
The version 4.9 is meant for all users who still use MacOSX 10.4 (or 10.3.9; 10.3.9 is not recommended as the WebKit, which is part of 10.3.9, is too old and buggy for many modern web pages). This is a pure bugfix release and includes no new features.
Version 5.0 requires at least MacOSX 10.5 (Leopard) and also includes new features.
There are two versions of iCab 5, one is for Intel Macs only, the other for PowerPC and Intel Macs. The Intel-only version is code-signed, so it can be launched under 'Mountain Lion' with GateKeeper enabled. Unfortunately the latest Xcode releases do no longer support PowerPC but in order to code-sign Applications, I have to use the latest Xcode releases, so I need to provide a separate version of iCab 5 for PowerPC users..
System requirements
iCab 4.9: MacOSX 10.4.x or newer (and also MacOSX 10.3.9, its use for Mac OS 10.3.9, and older, is not recommended)
iCab 5.0: MacOSX 10.5.x or newer
New in iCab 5.0.5 (Beta), 2013/02/06)
- Under MacOSX 10.7/10.8 iCab hides the toolbar by default when entering the fullscreen mode. The toolbar will automatically show itself when moving the mouse to the top of the screen. This behavior can be changed in the 'Expert' settings (enter 'settings:' in the URL field), so that the toolbars remain visible even in fullscreen mode.
- When saving a web site as 'Stand-alone-Application', this Application could not save any saved Forms data in the keychain.
- Under MacOSX 10.6 and later, iCab will now use new MacOS features to prevent that the user can gain access to the system in Kiosk mode, if this protection is enabled.
- Bugfix: Double-clicking on a 'Session' file in the Finder will now restore the Session under recent MacOS releases again.
- Bugfix: Drag&Drop of Alias files into a Browser window did not resolve the Alias.
- If a web page modifies its content via AJAX instead of opening a new document, and then artificially modifies its own URL to reflect this change, the new URL will now show up in the URL field.
- IPv6-URLs were not recognized if there was no path in these URLs
- Scaling of images didn't work anymore under MacOSX 10.8
- The in-page search field did not scroll when entering longer search terms
- There's now a keyboard shortcut available to enable/disable the fullscreen mode under MacOSX 10.7/10.8
- Drag & Drop of text into text fields of forms within web pages did not work correctly.
New in iCab 5.0v (Beta 124, 2012/05/25)
- Entering 'localhost:port' in the URL field will be now expanded to 'http://localhost:port'
- Clicking in the window when the in-page search is active will now correctly end the in-page search mode.
